Germany – Mexico

Germany will face their toughest opponents in the Group F on their way of defending the world title. They came to Russia as one of the strongest favorites to reach the final and rightfully so. Germany have won all of their 10 qualifying games to reach the World Cup and are expected to start strongly at this tournament.

Germany struggled in their friendly matches before the World Cup, but do not get fooled by their poor recent performances. It would not be the first time for the Germans to show below average performances in friendly warm-up matches and then explode at big tournaments.

Coach Joachim Low used many different formations and different players in the recent friendly games, but there should not be any surprises in the line-up for this game. That means that goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will likely play his first International game after recovering from injury, Boateng, Khedira and Hummels will be in the defense, Ozil should be the playmaker, and Thomas Muller and Timo Werner will likely lead the attack.

Germany have a pretty good head to head record against Mexico in all competitions, winning in six and drawing three of their total of 10 duels. Last year Germany faced Mexico at the Confederations Cup in Russia and defeated them with 4-1.

Mexico are the best team from the CONCACAF zone and they are one of the dark horses to go deep in this tournament. This will be their seventh straight World Cup appearance and keep in mind that Mexico have reached the Round of 16 in each of their last six consecutive World Cups.

Mexico have recorded some pretty impressive results recently, so they are starting this World Cup full of confidence. They remained unbeaten in 6 of their last 8 games, winning against Poland, Iceland and Scotland and drawing against Belgium before this tournament.

What makes Mexico good team is the great team spirit, experience, and the fact that players know each other very well. The midfield line is especially strong and they are also team that performs really well at tournaments.

I have tipped these two teams to finish as first & second in front of Sweden and South Korea in this group.

Germany will definitely take this game very seriously after showing some below average performances in the recent warm-up matches. Mexico will try to remain unbeaten at least, but they have a very negative record against Germany and will likely give their all in their games against Sweden and South Korea.

Maybe the Germans will not be as dominant as they were last year when they won with 4-1 against the Mexicans, but anyhow they should win this game by scoring at least couple of goals.
