Athletic Bilbao – Barcelona

Undoubtedly, the lead of the weekend in the La Liga will be the match between Athletic and Barcelona. Basque vs. Catalunia – a very symbolic clash against the backdrop of the political turmoil in Spain, and in particular after the declaration of the independence of Catalonia – an act that may have the most sympathetic support from the rest of the country in Basque.

On Saturday night, however, passions will be hotter on the sporting level, because the emblematic San Mamas will host two rivals who have traditionally been battling in recent years for very healthy battles.

Athletic has been unbeaten since the start of the season, recording three wins, two draws and four losses in nine matches from the Primera Division, which currently provides the team with 11th place in the standings. However, the shape of the “lions” has worsened in recent weeks, and if we report the results in all the tournaments, we will see that the men of Jose Siganda have only one win in their last 10 fights in all the tournaments.

For Barcelona, this will be the second consecutive serious visit. The previous trip was in the middle of the month at Vanda Metropolitan, where Athletic halted the perfect move of the Catalonians by nine consecutive wins in all the tournaments. Ernesto Valverde’s men, however, quickly returned to victory after a 1-1 draw in Madrid, scoring three successes in three games with a goal difference of 8:1. Currently, Barcelona is the leader of the Primera Division with four points ahead of Valencia and five points ahead of historic Real Madrid.

The hosts are without the injured Munian and the recovering Balenciaga and De Marcos. The guests will not play Rafina and Dembele, who are in the infirmary, as well as Vidal and Turan, for whom the game comes too early.

The final match between the two teams ended here with a 2:1 victory over the “lions” (in a Cup match), where Barcelona’s current mentor, Ernesto Valverde, was at the head of the hosts. Then the Catalans recorded two victories, including removing the Basques from the Spanish Cup, and in general Blaugoranas won 40 of 61 matches with Athletic.

Obviously the advantage of Barcelona, so there is nothing surprising in the fact that the guests are the favorite in the match. The vice-champions have a better quality and the problems of the hosts in defense only reinforce the feeling that the “lions” will hardly stop Messi and Suarez.

We will hardly see Valverde’s sentiments to his former team, so the expectation is to win Barcelona, and the ratio to a dry door from the Catalans is about 2.60.
